Apple’s new update in Remote app allows you to use your iPhone or iPad as a remote control for your Apple TV. You can use iPhone or iPad to type on the Apple TV quickly instead of using Siri to type. This great feature also prevents the remote control from being misplaced in between the couch cushions. You do not even need to spell a word to Siri, just use the Remote app on your iPhone or iPad to do this. Besides, the iOS app also includes integrated keyboards to enter user names, passwords and search terms.
In this step-by-step guide, we will walk you through the steps to type on Apple TV using your iPhone or iPad.
Steps to type on Apple TV using your iPhone or iPad
Step 1: Head to App Store on your iPhone or iPad and download the Remote App
Step 2: Open the application, click on Apple TV
Step 3: Enter the code that appears on the Apple TV into on your iPhone.
Once you are done, Apple will check if it is the appropriate code. If the code matches, your iPhone will start pairing with your Apple TV. You now can use iPhone to control and search for any app on the App Store the same way you use the Apple TV (Gen 4).
Your iOS device will be paired with your Apple TV and you can start controlling the set-top box using the mobile device. This application includes everything you want, including trackpad, Home button, Menu button, Play / Pause button, and Siri button.
Besides, the app comes with a built-in keyboard that allows you to type in everything, eliminating the need to look up at your Apple TV. If you want to go back to the normal console and continue navigating as usual, touch “Go”.
