AirDrop has been available for iOS and Mac for a long time and serves as a perfect tool to wirelessly transfer files from an iPhone or iPad to a Mac. If you are new to iOS and macOS, how AirDrop actually works may be a little confusing or even long-time users don’t know whether the feature exists. With that in mind, we will show you how it works.
In this tutorial, we will walk you through the steps to AirDrop from iPhone to Mac. Before we get started, make sure that you are now running a modern version of iOS and Mac to avoid possible issues during the process.
Steps to AirDrop from iPhone to Mac
AirDrop offers a simple and convenient way to transfer photos, videos and documents between Apple devices. In this post, we are going to AirDrop files from your iPhone or iPad to a Mac via the Photos app. Here is how you can do that.
Step one: On your iPhone, you simply need to select the photo you wish to AirDrop and tap the Sharing button at the bottom
Step two: Head to your Mac and launch a Finder window and select “AirDrop” from the left sidebar of the AirDop window
Step three: Next up, click the “Allow me to be discovered by” at the bottom of the window. You can choose to AirDrop your files with either Contacts Only or Everyone
Step four: Head back to your iPhone and hit the AirDrop icon from the sharing menu. Wait a moment until you see the Mac with AirDrop enabled icon
Step five: You now need to tap on that Mac to send your photos to your Mac. Your Mac will make a little sound effect, indicating that the transfer process is finished and your files will go to the users Downloads folder on your Mac.
Note that your Mac will keep accepting inbound AirDrop files from your iPhone if you have the Finder Drop window open on your Mac, so make sure that you close the Finder window if you are done transferring files from iPhone to Mac.
