Last year, Apple introduced the new MacBook Pro with significant changes over its predecessors. The new computer is described as both thinnest, lightest and most powerful MacBook Pro Apple has ever made. Basically, the 2016 MacBook Pro comes with a re-designed look, new hardware and compelling features, making it one of the most desired computers in the market.
One of the most noticeable additions to the 2016 lineup of MacBook Pro is a brand new Touch Bar, which sits on the top of the keyboard and replaces the traditional function keys. Basically, the Touch Bar offers contextual controls and visual settings that change the way you interact with apps on your Mac.
The new Touch Bar is exclusively available on the 2016 MacBook Pro, which is very frustrating. However, if the Touch Bar looks compelling to you, but you don’t want to spend $1799, all you need to do is to emulate the Touch Bar on your Mac.
In this guide, we will walk you through the steps to install and use the Touch Bar on any Mac. Before we begin, note that to use the new Touch Bar on older Mac machines, you need to install a third-party app on your device.
Steps to install and use software Touch Bar on any Mac
Step one: First off, make sure that you are running a modern version of macOS Sierra. You can download macOS Sierra 10.12.1 here
Step two: Once you have successfully installed the downloaded file on your Mac, you are now supposed to download Touch Bar Demo app to your Mac
Step three: Wait until the download is finished. Once done, you need to drag the downloaded file over to the Applications folder
Step four: Once you are done, launch the app on your Mac. If you cannot install the app on your Mac, all you need to do is to go to System Preferences, select Security & Privacy and enable app installs on your Mac
Step five: When it is done, open the app on your Mac and it will show up as a menu bar utility. To activate the Touch Bar on your Mac, you simply need to press the Fn key.
